Dear wreck and steamboat fans, on this website you will find lots of interesting information about the ship TSS Waterford, or better known as the SS Panay

A few words about me.

I am a passionate diver, and from 2012 to 2015, I was with my wife Veronica, instructor at the beautiful Sugar Beach in Sipalay in the Philippines.

In the dive areas around Sipalay on the island of Negros there are, besides the many beautiful reefs, also three wrecks to dive, the „Juliens Wreck the „MS JoJo“ and the „SS. Panay

I loved the SS Panay from the first dive and wanted to know everything about the ship.

The little available information about the SS Panay was vague at best and some of it obviously wrong.
Doing well-founded research from the Philippines was simply not possible due to the sluggish infrastructure.
After returning from the Philippines to civilization, I first started researching on the internet. Unfortunately, I realized that the SS Panay was probably a ghost ship. There is so knowledge on the planet but not a word about a ship called SS Panay.

“That’s impossible, ships do not fall from the sky, especially not ones so big. Someone must have built it at least once. “

 Questions about questions …

Suddenly I thought to myself. “The ship may not have been called SS PanayShips are often renamed. That was inspiring and demotivating at the same time.

That, and the treasure hunter’s rule, “99% of the search takes place in the archive,” was the beginning of a long and very elaborate search for facts.

Wenn ihr euch jetzt fragt welches Archiv, wenn er doch nicht mal einen Namen hatte, ganz einfach alle.

Model Building

As I am an ambitious hobbyist, the idea was quickly born to also build a model of the SS Panay. SS Panay zubauen.

My first thought: “A nice big model of the SS Panay would be nice, too.” Since you can finally look at the ship, as it once looked.

And if there isn’t one, then I have to do it myself.
The second thought: “Great idea, boy …” an original true model of a ship of which there is not even a photo. Perfect…
Challenge accepted!

However, this meant that I needed information down to the last detail. My research became an obsession, like a treasure hunt. After about a year of intensive research, I then had enough data for the preparation of the blueprints.

At the end of 2016, I started with the model construction of the SS Panay in 1:50 scale.

My wife Veronica suggested to me I should write a blog, or post it on Facebook.

I immediately thought, “whatnonsense, nobody cares.”

A little later, I figured that maybe it would not be bad to provide the collected information about the SS Panay to other interested divers and wreck fans.

This is how the website of SS Panay was created, and in the future maybe with your help.
